The highly-anticipated trailer for Kunle Afolayan‘s latest film, The CEO was released on Sunday. The movie, shot last year, features a Pan-African cast including Wale Ojo, Hilda Dokubo, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Angelique Kidjo, Peter King Mwania, Fatym Layachi, Nico Panagio, Aurelie Eliamand Ahmed Sultan.
It
is set, mainly, on a beach on the outskirts of Lagos and it tells the
story of five top executives from across Africa who are dispatched on a
one-week leadership retreat by a multinational telecommunication firm to
determine who to appoint as the firm’s new CEO.

Kunle Afolayan hardly gets it wrong technically:
Afolayan’s films are among the best, technically, in Nollywood.
Only a few come close. It is obvious that he goes out of his way to
recruit the assistance of seasoned professionals for the technical
aspects of his films, a trend which became more noticeable since his
production of Figurine. He’s got the funds, so why not?
Sound design is much better in this one:As well as Afolayan does technically, one noticeable hitch in October 1 was the sound design. But, from what we can see and hear in this trailer, it seems he has gotten it right in The CEO. Hopefully, we haven’t been deceived by this trailer.
Afolayan is not an actor’s director, yet:Well,
he’s not the only guilty one. Many Nollywood directors aren’t actor’s
directors. They pay too much attention to the technical details of their
films and too little to the artistic sides of them. And one major
component of the artistic is the actor. It is quite obvious from this
trailer that, like in his other films, Afolayan does not squeeze the
acting juices out of his actors.
Wale Ojo is still king:This bros is one of Nollywood’s best actors. A pity that he doesn’t quite like the term Nollywood. From Phone Sawp to Biyi Bandele’s Half of a Yellow Sun. There’s little wonder Afolayan keeps going back for him. If The CEO is going to be a very good film, Wale Ojo is going to have a big say in it.
The trailer doesn’t get us too excited:Never judge a movie by its trailer is what we have been told severally. If you saw the trailer for Out of Luck
and the film itself, you will have no choice to believe this. But
despite their “inaccuracies”, trailers are usually more interesting than
full movies and that is why we’re worried. This trailer doesn’t excite
much, but we’ll save our verdict, of course, until we see the film.
